There are indeed some positive qualities to Disher's writing. Plot and timing, however, are not among them.

Gotta say that Soho Crime usually gets it right. This crime novel, set in Australia, bounces from character within each chapter, but those characters are inextricably interlinked. Fine writing, and fast-paced, but one might have guessed the ID of the killer simply by eliminating the only character not linked directly to the crime action.

Set in Australia around Christmas. Strange to hear plans of surfing and barbecuing for Christmas. Solid mystery and well written.

Nice minimalist mystery with fairly complex characters. Author to his credit doesn't attempt to wrap up anything other than the main mystery. Complicated characters have issues that all are not completely worked out by the end of the novel but that doesn't make it any less satisfying.

A solid police procedural in an Australian small town setting. Hardly a nail-biter, but full of atmosphere and interesting characters.

Hal Challis is a police detective Inspector working on the Mornington Peninsula. The whole peninsula is his working area and this story is based in the community of Waterloo, in reality Hastings, investigating the disappearance and murder of young women. But the book does not solely follow this case as it also show the working lives of the other police officer at the station and live on the peninsular.

Having lived in the area for a while I found this to be an enjoyable and interesting read. It grabbed me from the start and just dragged me along for the ride. A great introduction to a new series of books to read.

Very Australian. Some of it was really good and some made little sense. Zero sense at all actually. I'm undecided if I'll continue with the series.

Enjoyable detective/crime novel, all the more so for being set in Victoria
