impossible to rate. her words are impossible to imitate and yet everyone tries and tries and tries. i genuinely believe that her words have such little intention behind them and what makes her so interesting and incredibly special is simply that this is the way her brain formulated her own thinking; the words are literally her world. it’s so special to read this

What a collection!

I picked up this book at the start of the year, perhaps even around Christmas time. I was determined that this would be the year that I really start to get into poetry. Plath’s name was mentioned a lot at university. I liked the look of having the entire collection in one book.

Although the chronological format of the collection is an interesting way to see how her work develops. I feel that in some cases it meant a lot of repition in a few poems, for example in the first part she was obsessed with ravens/crows and then later was an obsession with bees. I would like to read over Ariel as a collection - to see how it was structured.

There are some poems that I really loved. There were some that I didn’t, but with a collection this big, I’m not going to like them all.

Having read her poetry and having read The Bell Jar, I’ll definitely consider Plath as one of the best writers I’ve read this year.

Plath's estranged husband and hated by the feminist world, but an amazing poet. I may even like him better than Plath herself had she never written Ariel.

I don't often find myself reading collections of poetry, but I picked up a copy of this from Waterstones since Plath is my friend's favourite poet. She has such a way with words and I absolutely adored her writing! The personification-of-the-moon motif might be my favourite thing ever actually.
