I loved the concept and the tone of this book, but I don't feel like it went anywhere. Or maybe I just didn't get it. I enjoyed the writing style and would be open to reading his other works.

I can't really explain why but this just wasn't really for me. I think it teetered on the edge of being metaphorical and literal when I usually enjoy books that are either one or the other most.

set in a future dystopia - we follow klara, an artificial friend to josie, a sick child
very intentionally written as to not give too much away about the world building, which was a bit jarring - sometimes i just wanna know what’s going on!!
the first 1/3 was slow, the second 1/3 was interesting and had good build up, but the last 1/4ish of the plot arc lost me. didn’t really relate to a big moment that happened around 2/3rds through. it was still a good book but not something i’d reach for again.
i thought it would have more focus on human nature and loneliness like many others have mentioned.

I did not really enjoy my time reading this book; Most pages felt like a chore to get through, and had so much unnecessary details. I will admit, I did enjoy the characters and the first half of the book.

This book keeps mysterious elements of the plot concealed throughout. Only revealed in passing. There is only one or two major expository scenes and the rest is revealed slowly or not at all. I loved it!! Kept me guessing and curious!
