It's weird how little I remember from this bookseries, even though I'm pretty sure that I read these books (at least the first few of them) as a kid. However, it's quite nice to be back into this world and to enjoy the writing style. Normally I keep at least a week in between books by the same author, but in this case I'm making an exception. The books are quite short anyway, I'm on a reading roll too and I just wanna finish as many of them as possible before going back to my parents in 2 weeks.
And the moment I started this second book I had this huge smile on my face and that smile actually stayed there for the rest of the book. That's partly because of the writing style. I like how Mia really sounds like a 14-year old. How she curses (in a polite way, of course), how she panics, how she exaggerates a lot of things and how the way she writes her diary entries, and often also lists her homework in her diary, says so much about her personality.
If you look closely at the plot, especially of this book, it's not even that interesting. Strictly enough there's not really much happening, but the way it's written and the way Mia lives everything and the impact those not so eventful events have on Mia make this book endlessly entertaining and amusing. There are moments I'm giggling, there are moments I'm screaming at Mia to not forget important things for once and there are moments I wanna hug her.
Because no matter how much I love the Mia version in the movies, I think I love the book version even more. Mostly because we get her unfiltered thoughts which makes her sound like less of a princess. It's everything but formal and stiff and that makes it so easy to understand why Mia doesn't want to be a princess and is not really warming up to the thought in this book yet either. As a 14-year old whether or not that one boy loves you is way more important than a tiara, right?
I'm looking forward to the next one already!
