Devoured in one fell swoop. A beautifully written middle-grade novel that should be displayed on every classroom bookshelf.
A very sweet quick read written in poetic style. Uplifting and enjoyable, YA fiction.

Things I love about novels in verse: beautiful language, you can breeze through them, they have the ability to convey intense emotions and big subjects for their readership without detailing every horror or hardship. Jude’s story is lovely, inspiring, and encourages its readers to be who you want to be without apology.

This was such a beautifully told story of a young Syrian girl, Jude who comes to America as a refugee. It portrays the discrimination faced by immigrants so well, especially in a manner highly suitable and enlightening to the audience this book is directed towards. It made me emotional during a lot of parts. Although I have never faced her situation firsthand, I could feel what it would mean to be while reading this book. Her struggle to fit in and how she finally does manage to express herself was so well written. Even the changes in emotions the other characters felt were portrayed with extreme care. Every character was so well fleshed out. I love books in verse even though I'm not a poetry person at all. Overall, it's a brilliant book.

**I was given this ARC for a review through NetGalley**
I love love love a book in verse, especially for middle grade readers. The verse makes this larger title more accessible for reluctant readers and a quick enjoyable read for stronger ones.
I found this a breeze to read —held my interest, fun details to make you feel connected to the character, plot points that pulled you in...it has all of it.
Definitely a title I will be purchasing for my juvenile fiction section at the library.
Plus...BRING ON DIVERSE BOOKS FEATURING YOUNG WOMEN! 👌🏼

What a lovely and perfect read! Watching Jude grow from her life in Syria to relocation to America was such an enjoyable experience, and I would really love to buy a copy of this to read again and mark up with all of my favorite bits. There was so much to love about this one, but I think Other Words for Home is especially for those who sometimes feel torn or weird about existing between two homes/families/cultures/etc.
Definitely one of my favorite Middle Grade reads ever!
