Blair Hart returns to Wells Canyon after leaving a decade ago, when her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis pulls her home. She knows she will have to see Denver Wells, her high school love who shattered her heart all those years ago, but she hopes to avoid him as much as possible. Denver Wells is determined to make up for past mistakes. All those years ago, he shattered Blair’s heart, but he was young and grieving. As Blair steps into the role of caregiver, Denver steps into the role of steadfast champion. Their slow, emotional reunion had me rooting for them the entire way.
This story beautifully balanced the emotional weight, gritty reality, and swoon-worthy intimacy. The chapters that flashed back to their younger years show just how deeply connected they were, and what tore them apart. This, tied with their cautious, present-day reconnection, was incredibly powerful. Denny and Blair’s connection felt so raw and layered; you can tell from the start that their love never truly disappeared. There is this wonderful push and pull between them. Blair’s hesitation and self-protection against Denny, and Denny’s steadfast protection and devotion. I loved how Denny never stopped proving that Blair and their relationship were worth fighting for, and how Blair slowly let herself believe in them again.
Bailey Hannah continues to craft stories tackling real-life issues. There are many potential triggers in this book; please check them out if they are needed. Her stories are textured with authenticity, from the quiet charm of small-town life to the emotional grit of caregiving and grief. This isn’t just a romance, it’s a story woven into family, loyalty, forgiveness and healing.
At its core, Change of Hart hit me right in the feels. There’s longing, redemption, slow-burn heat and a couple finding their way back to each other under the weight of real-world struggles. If you love a swoony second-chance romance, with emotional depth and cowboy vibes, this is a perfect book for you.

What an emotional, heart warming story. I loved the dual timeline to learn of Denver’s and Blair’s story. Their second chance romance has so much joy, pain, and love included. Definite 5 star read!
