Only 200 of the 380 pages is actual story, the rest is recipes. Can't say I am complaining!

This one was a really easy read, but left me wishing there was more to it. I understand that it's a holiday book though, so it wasn't meant to be a full-blown Swenson Murder Mystery story. I am starting to get very frustrated at Hannah's relationship with Mike. She was irritated at him for over half of the book, but forgave him in like 2 seconds. She's never got a bad thing to say about Norman...come on, Hannah! NORMAN! And there was like NO Moishe in this one :(

Sugar Cookie Murder??? More like, Cookie Cutter Swensen. After the lackluster setting we got in Fudge Cupcake Murder I was hoping #6 in the series would bring a holly jolly hacking our way, but the story fell short of entertaining.
Spoiler You're telling me the murder was an accident??? A stabbing in self defense??? Where was the mystery? Where were the red herrings?
It's obvious Fluke reached a bumpy road in the series at this point and didn't exactly know where to take Hannah because it's all a bit redundant and bland at this point. I need intrigue. I need motive. I need more of a setting than just casually throwing out words associated with the holiday in question. I'm moving on to Peach Cobbler Murder because I'm a completionist and masochist apparently. Here's hoping #7 is better than #6.

Also, adding pages and pages of recipes to fluff up the novel after the fact was uncalled for. Where are the Christmas recipes? Does Joanne Fluke not celebrate holidays? So many unanswered questions.
lighthearted mysterious medium-paced

First of all, this book was only 200 pages, not 352. The last 152 pages are all recipes that are in Hannah's Lake Eden cookbook. Being an interval holiday book, the mystery was shorter and a bit different. Still interesting, and the fact that there seems to be more suspects in every book, it's harder and harder to guess the culprit. Another good installment in the series.

A veritable smorgasbord of the most inexplicable dishes Minnesota has to offer.
mysterious slow-paced

The town of Lake Eden is holding a potluck/ tester day for all the food that is going to be published in the Lake Eden Holiday Buffet Cookbook. Every one is bringing in there dish when divorced Martin Dubinski brings his new wife. A hot thing of 20ish Vegas showgirl. Can you say all mouths were wide open. Not to mention Martins, still in love, ex wife is there.
What could go wrong every ones having a good time but then Hannah’s mother’s antique Christmas cake cutting knife disappears. Freaking out Hannah tries to find the knife before her mother figures out it missing. Hannah soon finds her mother’s antique knife but in an unlikely place, Martin Dubinski’s new wife. Hannah finds her dead body lying in the parking lot, with the snow coming down hard there’s only one place the killer could have went and that’s back inside the community center where they are hosting the potluck/tester. With a room full of people there’s no telling who the killer could be.

When I started the Hannah Swenson Mysteries I had a plan to put sticky tabs on the pages that held all the recipes. This one maybe impossible, there’s over 50 recipes
