As soon as I read the Blurb for this I knew I was going to love it. Yet I was still surprised by the complexity of the story. This was not the trashy Romance I was expecting. It was beautiful in its own way and ugly in others but when the beauty and the ugliness came together the end result was breathtaking. That being said some parts were still less than perfect. The main thing that annoyed me was the characters. Ty was meant to care about Cassidy and claims to love her and yet does not even blink an eye at intentionally hurting her again and again mean while although Cassidy has "never thought of the future" due to her past you would think she would make SOME kind of plans once she gets freedom from it. Instead she seems perfectly happy being the perfect little housewife for her best friend and a guy she believes doesn’t even like her (and eventually their friends as well). Gage well actually he was one of the characters I have little to no complaints about any of his issues do bring the story forward and are actually believable in the situation. The more minor characters have very little information given about them. While they were numerous most of the "friends" blurred into one blob. What I really loved about this book though is I kept expecting it to end even if I had over 100 pages. This tells the story of a whole relationship and doesn't just peter out when they finally kiss. it shows a not perfect relationship but REAL they have their problems but they work them out... and although reading that it sounds like that should be the boring part it isn't it kept you on your toes and drew you in. I became really invested in their relationship as I got to know them both more and in reality that is what a true romance does. All the best romances have a little heartbreak.
Spoiler
that being said I am glad that she forgives him and they end up friends again
It was a good book and I have wanted to read it because I loved taking chances but giving it 3 stars not for writing or story quality but because it didn't change my life or leave a really lasting impression. I can look back and say it was a good book but somewhat forgettable. In that I compared it to how I felt after reading Taking Chances which I finished 6 months ago and still randomly think about.
This is a good read. I liked the characters for the most part except for Tyler who never redeemed himself in my eyes. Cassidy could be a bit wishy washy, but I think that is common for her age. She had been through so much that I overlooked any of that and Gage I absolutely loved along with his family.
I Am so disappointedly with this book I don't even know where to start... I was really looking forward to this book, taking chances was awesome and i guess my expectations were too high because this was beyond horrible. I mean, was there a deadline? Was the author just tying to get something out ASAP? . Wow Idk how I made it through the whole book. I honestly wanted to stop and even quickly skimmed through quite a bit knowing I didn't miss Anything. i just don't get how we went from taking chances where I cried and couldn't put it down to ... Oh my hahahaha I just wanna stop... BUT I BOUGHT IT FULL PRICE and had it marked on my calendar for the release date disappointed is too nice of a word. Oh well ... I mean it was so boring and pointless it was all useless information. And Tyler ? Eeewwww that guy was just stupid how could u be friend with anyone like that ever?? And gage.. Gag so so lame Idk gag gag gag I guess I'm just venting ....
Once again Molly McAdams has had me reeling from start to finish! Just as in Taking Chances, she has riled up so many emotions in one book! All of the ups and downs... the good the bad..... This book is definitely one to read!
My heart can’t take it. I swear I connected more with this book than anything. The Phoenix represents so much to me. I even had my fiancé name his tarantula Phoenix. I maybe not have been like Cassidy but I understand her. I love her and her strength. From the ashes one can always start anew. Like the song ashes by Celine dion. Let beauty come out of ashes. That’s Cassidy’s song. She deserves everything. I love her and gage. Tyler is her best friend forever. Even in trying time she still found the light. She still kept going. She made connections and she did everything she could not to let her past bring her down. She struggled at times yes but she made everyday worth living.
WOW! Fast becoming one of my favorite authors! LOVED Taking Chances and From Ashes was just plain awesome too! Can't wait to read more from Molly!!
I actually don't know how to rate this book. This book has to be THE most frustrating books I've ever read. Sooooo many misunderstandings because they didn't talk to each other. A character that was such a nasty piece of work that I wanted to punch him, but the worst bit was the forgiveness - WTF? But then I realised Molly must be a really forgiving person because I remember having an issue with forgiveness with Taking Chances. There were parts of this book that I loved, but way too many bits that I was frustrated or just downright angry. Usually I love books that make me feel so many emotions, but the bad definately out weighed the good. I was confused with the need for the Connor situation but I have to say that I loved Gage.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster. There were times i wanted to throw my kindle at the wall because i was soo annoyed, times i was falling in love with Gage, and times i just wanted to punch Tyler. It was an amazing read and proves how much people need to communicate, most of the initial problems come from the fact that Cassidy and Gage don't voice their feelings to each other but to Tyler.
Soo much happened in this book i can't believe it was only one book. I was completely blown away by this story and now can't wait to read more of Molly's writing.
