Ellie Alexander has done it again! I've read all the books in The Secret Bookcase Mysteries series, and this final book leaves you wanting more! While the killer for the our heroine Annie's best friend Scarlett is finally revealed, you're left wondering what else is in store for The Novel Detectives? Hopefully, we'll find out in the future, because I cannot get enough of Annie and her found family! Nevertheless, this was the perfect ending to the series!

Bookseller and newly licensed PI Annie Murray is excited to attend a booksellers convention with her business partner in a nearby town. While she's there, she hopes to follow up on a strong lead to finally solve the case of her college best friend's death. This book does a good job of balancing the behind the scenes looks at the convention (one of my favorite parts!), a death at the convention, and Scarlet's cold case.
This book wraps up the mystery of what really happened to Scarlet and concludes this series. (There will be a spinoff series coming out next year, though.) The ending is suspenseful, but a bit rushed and requires some suspension of disbelief. However, I like how things are wrapped up, as well as how things are set up for Annie and her friends' "next chapter."
I received an advance review copy of this ebook from Storm Publishing, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

ahhhhh i can't believe this is the last book in the series! i have adored this cozy mystery series with annie and her small town bookstore! i absolutely love the characters, the friendships, and the romance. we finally got closure on the overarching mystery regarding her best friend, as well as another mystery at a book convention. this brought all the fun that i've come to appreciate about the series. i'm sad it's the end but i'm happy that we'll get more content from annie and fletcher in their new series!

Good news and bad news. First the bad news, this is the final book in the secret bookcase series. However, and the good news, we aren't losing the characters as a new series will start with Fletcher and Annie opening their new venture. And, Scarlet's murder, the story that has arced across all five books, has resolved. At the same time, most of our favorite characters attended a fabulous book fair with intriguing merch and murder of a presenter. A fascinating discussion of the economics of publishing highlights the story. Thanks to netgalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the setting and the characters and the comments on the book industry -- but didn't care much about the cold case or its resolution (even though I've read all the previous books). The newer case was more interesting but seemed at times to be an afterthought, with a very abrupt resolution (which is also true of the other case). Shame that the first 60% or so of the book was so interesting but the rest was a let down. I'm curious to see how the spin-off new series goes.

I loved watching Annie's growth as a PI, and the dynamic as she, Fletcher, Liam, and Pri collaborate. Their individual strengths and witty banter as they team up against Scarlet's killer is a highlight of the story. The book fair setting introduces new quirky characters and potential suspects from the cutthroat literary world, providing an entertaining backdrop. I'm eagerly awaiting Annie's next adventure in Novel Detectives!
If you're a fan of charming cozy mysteries, particularly those with an intelligent amateur sleuth and an intriguing long-running mystery, then the A Secret Bookcase Mystery series is definitely one to pick up. While the individual mysteries can be enjoyed as standalones, I highly recommend reading the series in order to fully immerse yourself in the mystery of Scarlet's tragic past.

Former criminology student/bookseller Annie Murray had dropped out of college after an old friend was murdered, and her grief became a PTSD nightmare. This has haunted her throughout the other books in the series as she made more friends and developed a working partnership in the bookstore and in investigating murders in their small town. There is a new murder for investigation, and in the dangerous course of that investigation they find answers to the murder that started the detour in Annie's life. Now Annie and Fletcher open a new PI business, Novel Detectives, in an office above the bookstore and there is the promise of a new spin-off series to enjoy.

This is the last book in the Secret Bookcase Mystery Series. I was sad to realize this is the last one in the series because I have been enjoying it so far. I loved the Agatha Christie mystery themed bookstore and the cast of characters. I thought the premise of this book was interesting, lot’s of high tech bookish things. I personally am not interested in that, but I thought it was a different concept. In this book not only does Annie solve a mystery at the Bookfair she is attending, but she also finally solves the mystery of her friend Scarlet that was murdered ten years ago. This has been an ongoing storyline in this six book series.
Apparently, Ellie Alexander is starting a new series called The Novel Detectives with Annie and Fletcher so if you like these characters like I do, you might want to check out the new series, I know I will!

This was the perfect conclusion to Ellie Alexander’s A Secret Bookcase Mystery series and the perfect segway to her new spin off series about their private detective agency. I’m so glad Annie was able to solve the mystery of what happened to her friend Scarlett after all these years and she was able to do it with the help of the found family she’s created in Redwood Grove. Can’t wait to read the new series!!
