This was a quick, sweet read that I picked up as a freebie on Amazon. It was okay but I felt like I was missing more explanation of Jack’s previous relationship and that made it harder to connect to and accept his quick and easy feelings for Cassie. I’m not really sure I understand why Cassie felt the need to keep promises made under less than ideal circumstances. Overall though, I enjoyed the story enough to finish and not consider it a waste of tie.

Real life love stories are messy!

This story is the best representation of how dealing with what life throws at you. Each character goes through transition and of course the past is problematic. But as the story goes and the walls fall down, the love grows from deep within. Life isn't about finding the perfect timing. People aren't perfect. If this teaches us or allows us to be aware of embracing and moving forward. Let this be a guide a lesson to hope for a better tomorrow. To accept a new day.
Thank you, Christine Kingsley

Loved it

Absolutely amazing book. With characters that you completely fall in love. With a complex plot that keeps you hooked. I have to admit that this was a book that I couldn't put down. Definitely going to get the next book.

This is a cute filler read that I got for free on my kindle. While it is another one of the typical cute story it just didn't do it for me. The story starts with Jack back in town and running into Cassie at her bakery. She is his ex-girlfriend's little sister. And they all grew up together in a small town. But throughout the book I never felt like they were in what you would expect from a typical small town in a book. And I didn't get the sense that they were all close when they were young.

But regardless of that they are attracted to each other. But Cassie has a secret and it has to do with her adopted daughter Sarah and Jack.
SpoilerSarah is Jack's daughter with Cassie's sister Amanda. Amanda is not in contact with them and is a selfish horrible person.
Jack does not know what the secret is and Cassie promised to keep it a secret.

The book is pretty short so the whole story happened too fast. That along with being told how much they like each other instead of being shown it made the book just less for me. There was also not the normal small town quirkiness that is normal for books.

If you need a filler book or maybe a palette cleanser type book then this is a good choice. Otherwise you can skip it and read something with more meat on its bones.

Quick review: This was a boring read.

I didn't like the characters, they were telling more so than showing and repeating everything twice just so we knew that he is a family man etc. The plot was just annoying, it all could have been avoided if she had had a brain. The romance was tame and the ending was boring and predictable.

Cute story

This is a quick read, the start of a series. There isn’t really a whole lot of character development which might have given the story more depth. I don’t really feel like I got to know these characters. It’s a variation on the secret baby trope thus it’s clear where everything is heading. We’ve even got the best friend urging Cassie to do the right thing but of course Cassie ignoring her advice. As I’m reading all I can think is “you know how this is going to play out...” With a bit more information it also becomes clear how the crisis is going to come to a head. Why no one anticipated this in their bizarre secret keeping promises is beyond me.

Of course after tears and angst there is the requisite HEA (it’s a romance story after all). I just feel like there could have been a bit more depth to the characters to give the story more of a punch or to make the reader more invested.
