I give up - 1*

I entered this giveaway with no hope that I'd ever receive this book. I'd previously never read any South African crime fiction before and was desperate to read even if I had not won it. But then I received an email from Goodreads, I had won.

As this is my first giveaway win, I was deeply excited for this novel that I had the pleasure to read.
What a disappointment! I couldn't physically get to the end... I just couldn't. The characters was dreadful people - Benny Griessel is supposed to be the main character of this series (and this book) but he is a vile human being. He hits his wife, kicked out from his children and all he cares about is booze. How am I supposed to read a book with a protagonist so awful? I actually felt sympathy for the murderer.

I gave up on this because I would never have continued with this series because the main character is such a disgrace and a disappointment. If one of the characters isn't at least likable then I find it really difficult to continue. The plot was going all over the place on a tangent and although it may have linked together in the end - I didn't want to force myself to read this.

Don't read. GO and read some good crime fiction - you won't be finding any here.

I loved this novel. It was fast paced, well plotted, and the characters were beautifully fleshed. Meyer is a fantastic author that took me on an incredible journey through my home country and city which was possible because he was true to the place and the people.

Enjoyed this book, as it had all the right elements of a crime thriller all intricately even together.

Compared to his other books, this one was pretty meh, when I'm conscious of how many pages in I am that's when I know I want the book to end and that it sint interesting.
