eileen is like the quintessential girl loser. she sucks, and because of that, she can be so relatable, but she’s also deeply flawed. as a girl, i can empathize with her self loathing, insecurity, and rage. she kinda gives off the vibes of A24’s pearl meets brand new city by mitski. however,  the ending of this books feels very rushed and underdeveloped. the climax doesn’t occur until the 85% mark, and things move very quickly afterwards. i just yearned for more answers.

It got me into a readind slump, I thought "My year of rest and relaxation" was captivating and interesting but I can't say the same for Eileen.

Reading this book reminds me a lot of listening to a friend tell a story but the friend goes on a million different tangents and keeps telling a story within a story. But it was enjoyable anyway because Ottessa's writing skill is so engaging and reflective that it can keep your curiosity and attention. But I was anxiously waiting for the peak of the story. I was trudging through the middle of the book to reach the peak.
This book really makes me think of Phoebe Bridgers and Ethel Cain- Ethel’s grimy and moody Americana aesthetic/Phoebe’s grim, sarcastic and blunt attitude in her songs.
There are soo many content warnings but I put some of it
