It’s a sweet book. I enjoyed the overarching plot and struggles between Coyote & Rodeo. It was a very sad book. I wanted it to be a found family book and it had hints of it and pieces where it felt that way but it didn’t end with it. Other than the main two characters the rest feel pretty flat. Salvador has his moments and I love what we do see of him but he isn’t given enough. Val has no depth to her despite her part supposedly bringing the biggest climax and issue. The cat has more time & descriptors afforded to it than Val does. The goat is honestly more of a character than her. Overall it’s a lovely story, I did like it. I don’t think I liked the ending. The whole thing was a journey but I didn’t feel like it really wrapped up fully. I wanted more completeness. I was left feeling sad and like our main two characters still had more to say or do.

I'm a sucker for the trope of "precocious quirky girl with an unconventional lifestyle and traumatic past gets up to hijinks." (Is Anne of Green Gables the prototype?) This was not the most original story, but it was sweet and enjoyable.

Love the adventure and cast of characters! The trauma was just a little too close to home for me to completely love it.

I had such a fun time with this one! I’m a sucker for books about being on the road so it was already going to be a hit for me. I thought it was really awesome how they tackled real issues that were sensitive, but also could be relevant to the middle grade reader. I did have some issues towards the end with some of the plot point decisions but I really had a fun time with this one overall.
