This just wasn’t it for me.
I love a baby/pregnancy trope when it’s done right but this was just cliche and tried to add in drama but wasn’t done well. I don’t even know what the aim was with this, there was so many unnecessary parts and conflicts that were resolved too quickly for me, it could of been so good if they just stuck to one conflict and did it well.

I mean coopers dads thing!? What the hell was that, that needed a hell of a bigger deep dive into it to even make it a good conflict instead it was completely brushed over and just approached with a ‘oh he almost murdered them, okay no problem?’ Like what the fuck.

There was just so much unnecessary fluff it could of been a better novella if about 60% of the crap was trimmed out

Here we are again...

Okay so I totally did not start the series from the very end and worked my way up. Okay I'm lying I totally did that and I started with the very last book of the series and then worked my way up to the first book of the series collection. If you've ever read any of my reviews about Nikki as you would know that I'm literally in love with her and I would gobble all her books up. I don't even remember what book this is that I've read of hers but I know it's like over 8.

Fighting for a Second Chance
Fighting Series, Book 1
By: Nikki Ash
Narrated by: Lexi Evans, Tim Paige

I love Nikki Ash! Every time I listen to her, I know I am in for a treat. This is the first book in her Fighting series and as a second chance, sports romance, what is not to love? Liz is an smart, inexperienced girl, ready to move to the next level in her life. Her friend Kayla is more the party girl, and she is taking her out to have a good time. After all, as a high school graduate, it's time to start experiencing life! When Cooper spots Liz, he is immediately taken, and saunters up to dance with her. One thing leads to another and a one night stand ends up being a change in Liz's life. An MMA fighter, Cooper has to concentrate solely on his craft and has no intention of seeing her again, so no information is exchanged. Now five years later, their paths cross again, but this time, Cooper is going to have the shock of his life. Will the chemistry still be there? Will they get their second chance? I love Kayla and Liz! These two have a bond that goes so much deeper than friends, and without each other, Liz would not have been able to succeed to where she is. Cooper is a tough nut. He definitely has charisma, but at first his aloof outlook took me back. He did end up winning my heart though. This is a fun, easy listen, a little angst, a lot of romance and love for his girls that is incredibly heartwarming.

Lexi Evans and Tim Paige are our storytellers and they bring out the best in this book! Evans lets us feel all the emotions that Liz deals with as her life takes a turn. Not an easy thing at a young age, Evans takes us through as matures Liz to the great woman she is. Paige is amazing as Cooper. He delves into his personality, giving him the need for approval, but still keeps his heart open to Liz. I enjoyed their performance.

Fighting For A Second Chance- Nikki Ash

I don’t know what Nikki Ash puts into her books, but I swear it’s crack and I’m addicted. I loved this one so much. I kind of figured generally what was going to happen pretty early on, but some of the details took a turn for me I was not expecting. Such a beautiful second chance romance with a surprise baby, a Super Mom who will do whatever it takes for her baby, and an incredible man that, against everything he was taught growing up, does whatever he can to win his family’s hearts. Featuring a hilarious 4 year old with all the sass!

Incredible performance by Lexi and Tim. I go into books featuring children worries about their “kid voice” and they both did an incredible job across the board!

30 hours does not make a relationship.
30 hours is a wicked layover, a nasty hangover, a stomach virus. Or in this case the most memorable night of her life.

30 hours with a man that changes her whole life. More than a one night stand but not by much...

Fast forward to a mess of complication, some required adulting (totally a verb), and Liz is in the middle. When her friends demand she take a break for a night out, she never expected to see HIM again.

Remember those complications...they just got a whole lot bigger.

I have to say that the style of writing could use some finesse and the characters could be deeper but as a fast, fun read it was entertaining.

I love the plot of this story, but the execution fell short for me. I liked the characters a lot, and the storyline (second chance romance with children is one of my favorites). Everything just came across as... simple. I didn't find a lot of the dialogue to be realistic, especialky the 4 year old daughter (Bella).

This may not have worked for me, but there is potential. More than likely, I'll give this author another chance!

conflicted feelings about this one

First off, secret babies are my weakness. I love love love a good secret baby story. I’m sort of conflicted on this one. The story itself was good. Liz and her bff Kayla are 18 years old and just graduated high school. Before they takeoff for college in Las Vegas, their parents gave them a graduation gift of a week vacation in Miami. Kayla’s a party girl and Liz is the book nerd straight A student. They meet Cooper and his friends in a club, and it’s insta-lust. Liz leaves with Cooper and Kayla leaves with his friend. They spend 30 hours together, and then he leaves without exchanging numbers. They both wish it could have been more, but he is jaded after his parents horrible relationship. She has no way to contact him to tell him she’s pregnant, and they meet up again five years later when she discovers he’s a UFC fighter. After some drama, some back and forth, Cooper decides to go all in. He works hard to get that HEA.

My conflicted feelings is due to the fact that there is not really much dialogue in this book, and the vast majority of it occurs in the last couple chapters of the book. It’s a ton of telling, either narration or internal dialogue. It made it difficult to really “know” the characters as they were all sort of the same and one dimensional. I found myself skimming over parts because it didn’t draw me in. I’m sort of am I torn about reading Kayla’s story, because even no I want to see her get her HEA I’m not sure I want to be half invested in the story.
