Unfortunately, I felt there was no tension in here. Even after the summoning went wrong, I just couldn't connect.

I didn't particularly like any of the characters, and I wonder why Slaughter was there at all. He  seemed completely useless. As for Veronica and Constantine being bffs... ok? I didn't really get ANY vibes from them, let alone close pals.

Luna also irritated me. She seemed to just BE there, and I don't understand why she worked for the magician but couldn't be an apprentice. Especially since she was clearly learning things and could voice her opinions. Her thing with Constantine... again, ok. I wasn't compelled or interested, and unfortunately I really couldn't care about the somewhat open ending between them.

As for Constantine, I did not get 'bad boy vibes' so much as just 'rebellious teen with access to (boring) magic' vibes. For as much as he said he was rebellious, he went running to the experienced adults pretty quickly. I'm assuming the story was attempting to use him as a moral mouthpiece while still seeming cool and hip, but I just couldn't get into it.

The art itself was vibrant, and I loved the coloring. I wasn't the biggest fan of the constantly changing outfits for *every* single character, but that's very much my own personal opinion.

As for LGBT rep, don't bother. Constantine is confirmed on page as being bisexual, but the only mentions of it is two times or so of noticing a hot guy. That's it. No discussion about it, no showing it, no bringing up history. It's there, but I don't consider it to be representing anything.

Overall, I'm donating my copy to my library. I don't see many Constantine fans loving this, but casual DC or paranormal romance fans looking for something dark and quick to read might enjoy it.

the made John Constantine, renowned scouser, into a london boy, i assume to make it more palatable to a US audience but it's wrong to the character and insulting to regional britons

I have never heard of John Constantine and completely picked this up on vibes, so that is the perspective I am coming from <3

This was cute!!! and the art style is KILLER. Oh my GOSH. The presentation? The different pages organized around a location or an emotion or a symbolic item??? That's so insanely COOL???

Constantine and his friends' outfits are truly the heroes of this book. Every single outfit had me staring. They are all so punk and inventive and fun!! Again, my favorite part of the graphic novel.

The art is so great that it really, really elevates the experience. The story... was really strong for the first half! I was invested. Then they introduce the love interest who has very little character shown (she wants to learn magic... she's stern? she has parental issues?) and I just can't keep my interest up man. Veronica was my favorite, the best friend. Not that she should've dated Constantine, I think their relationship was great how it was, but she's just an example of a much stronger side character in the same story - very headstrong, we can see her personality clearly through her outfit, super relaxed. We really get a sense of that! But not so much Luna whose name I barely remembered.

Constantine is super cute though and definitely part of why I am ranking this so high. His emotions really come through, and he made me laugh multiple times. And the part with his dad at the and??? My heart broke.
SpoilerBoth the dad and the stepdad part. I believe in you Constantine!! be better than your biological father!! & shout out to his stepdad the real g. I always tear up when we have a good dad probably because mine wasn't there for me much either
Anyways, Constantine's aesthetic is too powerful and I would be doing him a disservice if I rated him and his vibes any lower <3 I don't know anything about the character he's based off of so I just think he is cool and neat and I would like to protect him even if he is a little stink

This was FANTASTIC. I love how it’s tying into some of the other DC graphics. I NEED a sequel!
