Well researched, relatable life examples and uncomfortable in a good deep learning way. I recommend!

Some good stuff, some bad stuff. There’s too much of the “you are enough” shtick, but some of her insights into the vulnerabilities that plague humanity are quite useful.

I like Brown's message and her ideas, but I'm not crazy about her writing. It's really folksy and often feels like it's trying too hard. Or if not too hard, then, maybe just really, really hard.
And I know that it's a persona, at least in part. All you need to do to see her scholarly persona is read about her research process in the Appendix: she has put on her academic hat and writes clearly about her methodology. I don't mind the code-switchiness of it, but I think I'd like something more in the middle for her narrative. It probably wouldn't sell as well (sales and audience are also the likely reason behind why the book isn't foot-noted/end-noted, but instead has a "Notes and References" section that feels disconnected [I personally like to see my citations in-text and flip back and forth]), but I would like it. And that's all that matters, right?
