Nice story. Interesting to see the beast transform and gain confidence to go back to his old, powerful self.

I loved everything about this book! It took a little bit of time for the author to settle into the story, but it finally hit its stride and took off. I'm sure some people will critique the events of the ending as a bit much, but it fit with the story of madness really well.

I loved the Beauty and the Beast elements of the story. Dair and Fia worked very well off of each other, and their attraction was quite palpable!

I'm really looking forward to this entire series!

I was intruded to this book by Anna @ Herding Cats and Burning Soup. I read her review, featured here, and become intrigued. Historical Romance's are not a genre I usually pick up, but her review made this book sound fascinating and something I might relish.

Their was so much to savor. Dair, the laird’s son and future heir, has been gravely injured and is grief stricken so much that he has gone rather mad. Fia, one of many daughters to a neighboring clan see’s her chance to see a little of the world and maybe help heal the laird’s son.

I loved both Fia and Dair. Both have scares inside and out. They also complement each other in that he’s bold and she’s gentle. I just loved seeing them together. They both needed someone to see them, help them heal, and see past the scars. Watching them come together was sweet and endearing.

There is also danger afoot and strange things happening in the clan. Rumors and murmurs of witch craft, evil, and that Dair is not fit to rule. Some shady things go down and a few people I definitely wished harm too. I’m curious to see where things will go from here.

Overall, I had a marvelous time. I’m glad I gave Beauty and the Highland Beast a try. I was captivated from the first to last pages and can’t wait to read the next in A Highland Fairy Tale series.

I couldn't get into the story, I was bored and wanted this to end so bad. The concept seemed so great but once I started reading, I wasn't impressed. I wish I loved this one but it didn't captivate me and I was ready to put this down so many times I'm proud of myself for finishing.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. I liked the first half but it went downhill fast.

Dair is a pirate of sorts and one time when he was out on sea his ship was attacked and they killed his whole crew except him and his cousin Jeannie. They rape, torture and kill Jeannie in from of Dair and then just send DAir back home so he can be a warning for his clan. Dair is back home and was grieving his cousin Jeannie... his cousin. But the way he went on and on about her it felt like they were in love and that got creepy. I didn't like that at all. I know in that time period things were different but still the way it was written was creepy. Anyways he screams at night because he dreams of Jeannie. Everyone thinks he's mad.

Some weird goddess shit happens and the chief is told he needs to find the virgin, the virgin is the only one who can save him. So he goes and finds a virgin. yeahhhh just like that. Oh we need a virgin? Let's go to another clan and ask for a virgin. blah. The virgin (Fia) comes and sings to Dair and it soothes him.

Some other shit happens. A dude goes bat shit crazy and tries to kill everyone. The end.

The only thing I ended up liking about this book was the cat. Im gonna give it 2 stars because I honestly liked it at first. Just the more he talked about Jeannie the more creeped out I got and then Fia started acting like a desperate fool and I just couldn't handle it ant more.

I just didn't like the characters, I couldn't really get into the book. I had such high hopes and was so disappointed. I just couldn't read it anymore.

Not for Me

I normally like historical fiction books, however, I just was not in the mood to read this one for some reason.

So much fun! This was such a great, light-hearted, historical romance with just a enough of a hit of classic fairy tale. Dair is a wonder beast - haunted by tragedies in his past that he blames on himself, he haunts Carraig Brigh with his nightmares and terrors. When it is foretold that only a virgin can save him, everyone loses hope (apparently there aren't many in the area). But when Dair's father visits the lands of the Fearsome McLeods, he finds a couple that just might work.

Fia was a breath of fresh air. She was a helper and a healer. Satisfied with her place in life and the knowledge that she would be there for the rest of her days - until Dair. Once she meets Dair her dreams change, and she finds that her presence and voice offer a comfort to him that none have been able to provide. She may really be able to magically vanquish his crazed side.

But there are rumors of a witch, and Fia will find herself caught up in the superstition. Her life will be at risk, and along with it, the very sanity that allows Dair to be laird of the land. A great mix of suspense and daring, love, and a bit of fairy tale magic (but no actual magic) brings this story together in a way that I just loved.
