this was a bit slow for me, for some reason, and a bit outdated in some of the terms/framing used - not in a way that seemed purposefully left in for the sake of historical accuracy, more that this book was written ten years ago and is not as aware of language of colonization, etc. which just made it a bit harder for me to enjoy the wartime setting. that said, sinclair's department store? magical! take me there!

A fabulous book that takes you into the world of an unexpected heroine with a few sidekicks to help along the way to solve theft of the clockwork sparrow from a mysterious villain that everyone wants to catch but who’s reputation puts fear into everyone who talks about him. This was a fun read and reminds me of mr selridge but a bit more lighthearted, with a few iced buns thrown in to whet the appetite. The descriptions of the setting of the department store Sinclairs and the wonderful illustrations through the book take there and along for the ride. A nice quick easy read I will search out the others in the series

Fun and easy mystery! Not super complicated.
A good old fashionedk rip-roaring romp - I really enjoyed this adventure and am looking forward to reading the next one. Great characters and an entertaining plot. Some great ideas and plenty of seeds planted for an ongoing story arc.
