Ben Tyler brings me back to my high school days when I randomly managed to get a hold of his books and giggled with some friends about the "lewd" acts that were "performed" on Gay Blades. I don't recall much from Tricks of the Trade, but for certainty, I know that I never read Hunk House, until now.

You can't judge a book by its cover, because the image in the front has nothing to do with the actual story, a reality TV show set place in Dulcit City, Iowa. The reality show is supposed to be a gay version of Survivor, wanting to uproot a small-town TV station by showing that queer men can do other things besides sex, sex, and more sex.

The story is entertaining for a day-by-the-pool read, but nothing too groundbreaking. I say there's probably enough sex to dip your toes in the water, compared to the current standards of smut. Regardless, reading the book gives me a sense of gay nostalgia back in the late 90s and early 2000s when it was still a bit taboo to talk about being gay, but enough to be comfortable that people aren't weirded out by it (if that makes sense, or maybe it's just my old age).
