The tension slowly builds as the stakes increase with each passing page. YOU find yourself wanting to scream at the main character to run whilst simultaneously understanding why she hasn't.
It shows you how totalitarianism can take hold. You find yourself making comparisons to Ukraine, Poland and current goings on in the US. You can see how society can sleep walk into it. Whilst it also being so blindingly obvious that it is happening. But how do you stop it?
It's harrowing to sit and think about the what-ifs. It's heartbreaking and thought provoking to read.
