I received an electronic copy of this novel to read prior to publication as part of a book blog tour in return for an honest review
I enjoyed the way that the author appeared in the novel themselves as a narrator. This was a fun element to the story. I also love the fact that in the beginning of the book the author makes clear that this is based on a real life history story. Well then ! I did however spent a lot of time pondering this is ,it true as in not at all true this is a story or like in the TV series Fargo, where everything said to be true, but you know it’s not?
The story follows three friends who are drawn to the bedside of one of their long-term friends back in their hometown after he falls into a unexplained coma. They all begin to realise that there are things that they don’t remember from their past it’s as if their minds have been wiped clean. The story gets darker as mystical forces appear to be involved. In Stephen King novel way.
There’s a delightful tongue in cheek kind of humour you find just a sniggering things like the names of a private jet owner Holden Von smack
Between each section there are some drawings quite simple but very effective at maintaining the atmosphere for example section 3 says read a prepare yourself in big letters as a heart lock and a book and what looks like nerves or tendrils surrounding it
The mysterious research Centre attached to the local hospital is a perfect setting for Scooby Doo like mystery .
I was quickly immersed in the story but found myself being a little bit disappointed with some of the explanations later on in the novel they didn’t quite true to me. this was the main reason the novel didn’t score higher
I have read a couple of the authors previous novels and he’s a very prolific popular author. I’m sure this novel will be very popular too.
The book is published on in the UK on the 20th of May 2025 by Thomas and Mercer
