This book used the popular approach of alternating chapters between two women living at different times (here, 1950s and present-day NYC), and while it isn't great literature, I thought it was quite well-done and made for good bedtime reading. I enjoyed the progression of the two women's stories and the mystery that tied them together.
meh. just Okay. Predictable ending. Was interesting to learn more about the Barbizon hotel in NYC though.
This was a great story, unlike anything I've read in a while.
It alternates between NYC in 2016 and NYC in 1952. The mix of both is perfect. The author gives you just enough of each to keep it interesting and keep you wanting more.
I loved the plot of this book. The glamour and grit of the city in the 50's juxtaposed against a woman's struggles here and now combined with a healthy dose of intrigue and at least one death.

I genuinely enjoyed this book (except for one scene that was too graphic for my sensibilities) and found it easy to get into. It came close to 4 stars for me, but when it wrapped up, the story as a whole felt a little lacking to me. While the ending wasn't a bad ending, I just didn't feel it matched in intensity to the enjoyment of the road there. The writing was great (hard to believe it's a debut novel) and with a strong sense of place. The setting became a character itself, as New York City was brought to life in a such a way that certainly made me want to plan a trip there! So that was fun. Overall, it was worth my time but the storytelling themes just didn't carry the weight I'd hoped they would.
A well-written page turner that keeps you guessing. The characters come alive page after page, with the Barbizon itself becoming perhaps the largest character. The excellent blend of past and present action keeps the reader interested throughout and the ending delivers a few twists that no one could have seen coming.
I always love Ms. Davis’s books. It’s fun getting a glimpse into New York City in the 50’s (or whatever timeframe each of her books is set in). This one was fun and a little uncomfortable. She always manages to make at least one of the relationships awkward or strained. It adds a fun dimension to the story.
