I actually really liked this book! Was worried whether the fmc would be too airheaded at first, but she is surprisingly well written, the book overall gives me a lot of Wild Child/Sense and Sensibility vibes, with the glamourous sisters lost in rural west coast bit. Literally went ahead and preordered the next one in the series. I still really think that the experience of reading romances is varied heavily depending on what rom-com tropes the reader personally like and how much cheesiness they can tolerate. It Happened One Summer is super cheesy, but actually also really endearing and sweet, the mmc and fmc both have ambitions and they compliment each other really well despite being polar opposites. Also switching between fmc pov and mmc pov is just super fun to read, not a lot of romances are written in such a raw way. Just really liked this book, 4 stars!!

The character development in this book was amazing. Honestly I people commenting about how they didn’t like Piper when they first started reading the book, and I can agree with that. But as I read further on I was able to further understand who she was and why she did things the way she did.

I love the relationship that Piper and Brendan have. I’m so happy they were able to stay together even through their misunderstandings. I will always love a book with a happy ending and so I’m happy to see that for them.

My brain chemistry just rewrote itself.

Piper Bellinger (Cross) is this wonderful, colorful, amazing character. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, and an absolute joy. She’s frivolous, spoiled, high maintenance, but also so incredibly bright and wonderful. Take Elle Woods from legally blonde and Piper is her mirror.

Brendan. Brendan. Brendan. I LOVE HIM. He’s so sweet and kind and gruff but he’s so healthy even when he is flawed. Absolutely wonderful man. Also hella horny for Piper but that’s fine because she’s just as, if not more, horny.

We love a sexually active woman.

the characters in this book were a bit rough for me to love.. but i think it was mainly the cringe of 'social media influencer' and 'hard-shelled fisherman' falling for each other in the matter of a week or two. i did overall enjoy the book, but i think i'll end up liking the sequel more??? which is weird because it's different characters? we shall see!
