*NOTE* I read this book as an audiobook through Audible!

This series was one that Audible recommended to me a while back; as I’m the type to follow multiple storylines at once, it took me a while to finish this one. However, this was always the one I was excited to come back to the most.

This book combined two of my favorite elements; magical fantasy and a royal hierarchy. However, this story was unique in the sense that the female heroine was NEVER portrayed as weak. Different? Yes. Disadvantaged? Absolutely. But weak? Never. She was able to find her own strengths, through the help of the people around her. Kalinda’s mentality is empowering, and it’s one I’d like to emulate, considering how much she grew as a person throughout the series.

The only thing I didn’t like about this specific book was the overuse of plot lines. The 3 books before this did a great job of using the WHOLE book to develop one or two central plots. However, in this book, it felt like every other chapter, a new sub-plot was being introduced. As a result, the ending felt a bit rushed as the author tied all of the ends together.

Otherwise, this was a fantastic book! One of the most mature YA novels I’ve read in a while, and I’ll definitely be sifting through this author’s other works to find my next book :)

~Review🖋~
All your favorite characters return in the finale of the Hundredth Queen Series including some names you thought were long gone. Kali embarks on her mission to find her love, Deven, who was taken into the evernight (the equivalent of the underworld). No mortal has ever ventured into the evernight and come back out but she's determined and when she's able to enlist a god to help her, she finds out more about herself than she had ever thought possible.

Emily R. King's writing transcends this world and transports you to a lush and vibrant universe, rich with Indian and Middle Eastern undertones that keeps your fingers at the ready to turn the next page. I alternated between reading and listening to this book on Audible and I dare say that the narration was as good or better than just reading it.  A masterful finale that has me counting down the days until Emily releases her next series!

This was almost a three star rating. This book dragged and I truly felt that the series could have ended in book three. This one had a completely different tone to it from the others and I didn’t like it much. But the ending was so sweet and that’s what bumped it up to four stars. Im glad things ended the way they did.
