I thought this was good but I liked Daisy Darker better. I love wintry thrillers and thrillers set in confined spaces and it was great for those aspects but the characters grated on me and the twists were just....less is more sometimes, no?

2 stars for the “twist”, minus 1 star for the following comment in the book out of spite:
"The woman bore her bitterness like a badge; the kind of person who writes one-star book reviews."

Reading this book felt like a chore. The main couple was whiny and insufferable. Everyone was a lying POS except for Bob the Dog. The buildup was extremely slow and boring; nothing happened until about 60-70% in. I didn’t feel the tension that was supposed to be there. Much of the story didn’t make sense and was laughably stupid at times. I mean, the couple played rock, paper, scissors multiple times to decide whether to get divorced, despite knowing their relationship’s been awful for years.

I didn’t expect this to be “life-changing” or anything like that. I was hoping for something quick and entertaining, neither of which I felt about this book.

Audiobook note: The narrator for Adam’s chapters did a good job, even for the female speaking parts. I didn’t care for the Amelia narrator’s delivery.

So close to 5⭐️ read for me but it was a little slow to get started. Once it picked up, I couldn’t put it down. The twists had me gasping and screaming, truly a thriller. Unreliable narrators drive me a little nuts, so another reason for not a 5 star read for me. But the story wouldn’t have worked without the unreliable narrators!

high expectations, not really met.

kind of confused by Adam's character. The book seems to hint that he's really sinister and plotting against his wife, but then the truth is that he just...what, wanted to go home, so he tried to sabotage the vacation? Seemed pointless to me. And all the 'life is like a box of chocolates' quirky sayings were a little much for me.

As a married woman, I am glad that my husband and I never exchanged the typical anniversary gifts. Though, it was very warming to read the letters describing the anniversaries at first, as the years go by the letters just kept getting more and more sad. Twists and turns led these two back together though.
