30 year old Persephone Aim uncovers a magical object from her family from WWII. Her over-looked mother tries to take it for herself. While Persephone decides whether to keep living in the past or move forward into the future. I really liked this book, though it was quite short, I felt as if I was reading a series of chapter books. The plot kept me cheering for Persephone and adknowledging the fact that her grandmother was really something.

This was a novella that fit a category for read harder this year. It was also nominated for a couple awards and was easily purchased on kindle. I had no clue what this was about, but I knew it was at least magical realism if not full blown fantasy. So when things seemed normal I knew something was up, and then things started to get weird and I liked it. I wanted a bit more of a backstory or maybe another twist at the end. I felt satisfied when it was done, but not overwhelmingly excited about the story. It was a perfect length which I enjoyed. I'd recommend it if you are in for something a bit weird and don't mind a short read.

A fun little mystery, but weirdly paced, especially rushed toward the end
