I like the world and the magic system. I also like the characters, but not necessarily in a "these are great people" way. I find them intriguing and would like to see how the story develops going forward. I also think this would be interesting to reread at some point to see what details I may have missed the first time around.

I enjoyed this novel more than I thought I would. The magic system was explained in an info dump way but I enjoyed this world regardless. I wish the characters were fleshed out more but they were fleshed out enough to have distinct voices.

As a HUGE Scott Reintgen fan (I teach Nyxia to my 7th graders), I worried my excitement for this book would end in disappointment. Boy was I wrong! He set the tone right from the beginning, building a world of magic that was so different than any other I have read. There was so much detail and richness that I got sucked in and couldn’t stop reading.

The plot did not disappoint either - the balance of heart stopping action and edge of my seat suspense made for the perfect pace of reading. He also kept throwing in twists and turns right up until the end. I’m STILL reeling! The second book can’t come fast enough.
