Parts of this book were beautiful. I loved exploring the sister dynamic and the love and tension that existed in their relationship. But I didn't like the ending AT ALL. And I wish it ended a couple chapters earlier or something. I wish she left with Ben when he asked and then they could have a time jump and show how or if Sam and Elena fixed their relationship.
One thing I did love was Sam's relationship with Madeline. It reminded me of being in high school and having a small interaction with someone and then blowing it was out of proportion in my head afterwards. I was also hoping there might be some romance there but I guess SOME books don't need gay subplots. Maybe. Lol

I really wanted to like this book because I had enjoyed Julia Phillips debut novel, Disappearing Earth.
But I just couldn't get into the story. Sam was such an unlikable and immature character and I felt like you really didn't get to know Elena. It may have been a better story if you could have understood the sister's relationship from both their perspectives. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.
