Well written, a good read. Good character descriptions and developments. Better than P&P and S&S I think. 3½ stars.
I have never adored a main character more than I adore Emma.
This book has everything you’d expect from a Jane Austen novel, and ALMOST surpasses my love for Pride and Prejudice.
What an absolute joy to read!!!!

Honestly a bit of a drag. The characters aren't bad, the story is ok, but I saw a stage adaption which in a few hours of an evening did a better job than the book.

I owe my life to my past self who decided to watch clueless, and be informed of the fact that clueless was, in a way, the same plot of “Emma”. I think there would have been a lot more confusion on my side if I didn’t have that to reference it to. If I were to describe this book in one sentence: the 1800s housewife’s version of reality tv. This book is just full of entertaining gossip and anecdotes. Jane Austen was a genius at coming up with a book equivalent to being on facetime with a friend. I think where this book fell a little short is that she dragged out a lot of the moments way too long, but what Jane Austen book isn’t like that?
This book was overall very entertaining for me! Considering the lengthy amount of content in this novel, I was surprised about my ability to finish it with the steadfast positive attitude since the beginning. I don’t really think this book can be enjoyed by everyone, though, because not everyone would enjoy having to listen to society and gossip obsessed young adults discuss what the biggest piece of tea was in action at that time period. But due to the fact that it is a historical book and takes mental stability to get through, I will let this book slide. I think that my favorite character, overall, was probably Emma. I know, this is shocking. She is just so dense and self absorbed, that she's comical. The narrow minded readers who hate the book just because Emma is dislikable, missed the exact point of the novel. Emma was made for us to dislike her! She is the exact definition of a privileged white girl who lives in life for the sole purpose of drama, and that is why we like and dislike her so much. I was rooting for her the entire time, and was very happy with the way things ended for her. I am buzzing to read my next jane austen novel in the future!
