This is a fantastic adaptation of Emma. Austen famously said that Emma is a character that no one but herself would very much like, but Hamill's adaptation manages to both pay homage to the original while also providing modern context for what shaped women like Emma in a way that Austen herself wouldn't have been able to do. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
This was the first Jane Austen I have ever read and I really enjoyed it! While I was reading it for a literature course, I will be reading more of her work!

“It was badly done indeed!” Mr Knightly chides Emma after the Box Hill episode. And tbh, it’s what I wanted to say to Austen more than a few times. I remember liking this novel years ago, but it hit me differently this time. Not sure why, but it’s interesting to think about how stories age over the years. Anyway, Jane Austen, it’s not you, it’s me. (But maybe it’s you.)
