Cute but too drawn out, some good life pondering though

Very early 2000s perspectives (on, for example, women's weight and appearance, LGBTQ+ people, depression and mental illness, and race) made it difficult for me to really love this book, but I did enjoy how the story unraveled. Vince's relationship with his siblings was the cutest part imo.

Do you ever forget your first love?
Thanks to be off work due to illness, I managed to read this my (I think) first book by Lisa Jewell, in pretty much one sitting.
The majority of the story is told from the perspective of Vince, which makes a nice change and deals with Vince and Joy who meet on a holiday in 1986 but, for various reasons, things get messed up and they lose touch.

Remember falling in love for the first time? Remember thinking, This is The One? Remember life getting in the way? From adolescent snogging to apartment shares, relationships, career crises, and children, Vince & Joy is the unforgettable story of two lives lived separately but forever entwined.
A lovely, relaxing read with likeable characters and a plausible story. Fun!

Listened to this TROPE of a love story… and was slightly annoyed at times, but loved the character building from this author. VERY different from her thriller stuff, but equally good. I was kept on the edge of my seat for the entire book, but in a different way from her other writing.

Filled in a long haul flight. Flimsy, predictable & other than one character, pretty hard to invest any energy in 2D plot movers

What a great book, so different from her later ones. A charming story, great characters and well written. I've read them all now so will have to wait for her to write more.
