Ew.
She: thousands of years old, nearly infinite power, can fight better than he can, enjoys fighting, enjoys her life.

He: kidnaps her, holds her hostage, says she'll never fight again if he has anything to say about it, oh and has a GIANT dick, apparently.

She: loves literally being commanded and just poof gives up her whole personality and life.

My first book from this author and I liked it. It was a fast read and easy to get into.

I think I came into reading this book with far too many expectations. I was sorely disappointed. I honestly kept reading because I thought it wasn't possible for the premise of this novella to stay as awkward and uncomfortable and somewhat non-consent-y as it did, and it just didn't do a whole lot for me. Even though there was a lot of the "romance". Most of the book included the "romance". And the "romance" happened very quickly and often and didn't bring that nice type of titilation that, if I'm being honest, is the reason that I'm reading this type of book. I guess I almost wish this were made into a longer book so there would've been space and time to really get to know the characters and why they developed in the way that they did, or really the way that I though they had the potential to. I'm not going to continue with this series, but if you're bored and trying to get to know the romance novel....no, try something else instead.

“What do you find attractive about me?”
“Your scars.”
“Why?”
“They’re evidence of the pain you’ve survived. Pain survived builds strength. This is the one that killed you?”
“Yes.”
“Then I admire this one the most. It brought you to me.

I really enjoyed this prequel story about Myst + Wroth. It overlaps slightly with the first book in the series timeline-wise, but there aren’t any spoilers to it. This could definitely be read first if one wanted. Both characters did each other so dirty in this book. Wroth really judged her at surface level and by reputation. I wish it wouldn’t have taken her note “a heart for a heart” for him to take his dream memories seriously and without bias. I almost cried when they fought the ghouls in the graveyard just before sunrise. Overall this book is a nice glance into this work Kresley Cole has created for a reader who is curious about these works.

This is a paranormal urban fantasy, a vampire romance. The MMC is possessive at the highest level. If that’s not your thing, then that’s okay and this book probably isn’t for you.

Well… what can I say. This is my umpteenth time reading this particular book as well as the series. This series is what I call home when I want to read something familiar and just be smothered by male dominance. Nikolai and Myst rank up there as my favorite pairing in IAD. I enjoy the naivety that is Nikolai. Although being upwards of 300 years old he knows very little when it comes to different factions of the Lore. To see him grow as a character and accept the craziness that is Myst and her family is a large reason why I come back to this book. He will do anything to have her and she’s just as surprised that she’s not putting up a bigger fight.
