I've got to say that I found most of this book somewhat average. The pacing is a bit off in places, and for most of it, there's no sense of rising action, just things kinda happening one after another. This is made more noticable by some of the dialogue and characters' mood changes feeling somewhat constructed. The beginning is especially slow, taking over 50 pages to get to a part that's quite easy to foresee even without reading the back cover.
The ending, however, is truly spectacular and makes this book a solid 4/5. I'm looking forward to seeing how the author's craft will continue to improve :D

*kinda/sorta spoilery* I don’t know if it was because this book was so hyped but I wasn’t getting into it like I thought I was. The pacing was really off for me. The middle was very repetitive with no action and there was no clues given to the mystery. There wasn’t a lot of payoff for the lore because I felt like it was spit out at the end. And by that point I wasn’t invested in the characters so there was no payoff for me. Also, I think I’m just not as into falling (like “willing to risk it all” falling) for each other in a matter of a few days anymore. I also think the ending and Yadriel’s abilities should have been more built up. I kind of felt more drawn to the culture and family dynamics more than anything and wanted more from that.
