Damn this book was a ride. It was told in a very interesting way. The whole story is told from the prospective of Ava telling a detective her story. It’s captivating and compelling. The twist was great. I totally bought it

First, I have to appreciate how quick of a read this was. I love a quick story that keeps me engaged.

Now, I also have to say I cannot stand Henri and all the content with him. Knowing what I know now, I get why he had to be so obnoxious so we could understand Ava’s struggles, but she could have additional struggles on top of a terrible twos experience.

Ava’s college roommate (of like one semester freshman year) surfaces more than a decade later, encouraging her to help with a few counterfeit purse jobs she’s running. With her husband spending a majority of his time in a different city for work and the constant battles she faces getting her son into elite preschools, Ava easily falls for Winnie’s schemes.

The first half of the book is all told in first person by Ava as she’s being interrogated about Winnie’s crimes. Reading the print version, the lack of quotation marks threw me off from time to time, but I had to remind myself that Ava was telling a story to the lead detective and not actively living those moments. As for the second half, well, you’ll just have to read to gauge that experience. No spoilers.

I do wish there was more character development for Winnie, Ava’s husband, or Ava’s nanny. Could’ve dedicated some of the Henri stories to them. This might be more like a 2.75.

I remember liking this book plus I love the cover, but I can’t remember many specifics about the story.
