I'm glad I'd already read "The Body in the Library", because there was a little bit of reference to this which I would have missed, as the murder occurs in the same old manor house.

I enjoyed the read. I really enjoy the way Agatha Christie writes. I did find there were perhaps a few too many side characters/plots in this one which meant I sometimes found it hard to keep track of who everyone was. Also, some of the coincidences seemed a little too far-fetched, in terms of unexpected people from the past.

All that said, it was another great murder mystery. And I also quite enjoyed Miss Marple's thoughts on growing old gracefully and some of the challenges that come with old age.

At a wonderful party, the beautiful movie star, Heather Babcock suddenly falls ill and suffers a seizure that unfortunately kills her. When the details of her death come in, Heather was murdered as her drink contained 6 times the amount of a medicine that was recommended to take.

Who did it and why did that person kill Heather Babcock? Was it out of jealousy? Who hated Heather that much to do something that cruel?

This book takes you through the police investigation and questioning those who were at the party. Miss Marple finds certain things very suspicious and has her own questions. At the end, it was Miss Marple who figured out the mystery of who killed Heather Babcock with a poisoned drink.

I honestly had a tough time reading the first 50 pages of this book. I really couldn't get into it, but I'm glad I read this book as it is the first Agatha Christie book I've ever read. I can't say I'm a huge fan of this format as I'm not a big fan of reading a mystery and finding out what really happened in the last few pages of the book. What's the point of reading the entire book if no clues were really given? I can totally see why others enjoy her books though as they were very innovative and so well written.

I read this because my library said I should read a book and and watch a video adaptation of that book. And so I did.

It's sort of standard Miss Marple. Quite nice. 3½* were that possible.

"Heather Badcock meant no harm. She never did mean harm, but there is no doubt that people like Heather Badcock (and like my old friend Alison Wilde), are capable of doing a lot of harm because they lack - not kindness, they have kindness - but any real consideration for the way their actions may affect other people.”

This was my second Miss Marple audiobook in a few months. I enjoy listening to Christie's novels on audio - the readers are always excellent and the mysteries are not so taxing that I can't listen and drive.

However, both these audios were set in the 1950's. As a friend said, "Miss Marple gets a bit preachy" by that time. Also I realized that I really think of Miss Marple and Christie as being of the 1930's and 40's. So although I enjoyed this mystery, I am going back to Miss Marple's beginnings - maybe A Murder is Announced.

I wanted an easy book to listen to, and this one was great. There might have been a bit too many "coincidences", but it was a lot of fun.
