Definitely one of the best Christie mysteries I have read. There's a bit of unfortunate language related to persons with developmental/cognitive disabilities and of certain ethnicities. But, what can you do, it was a different time.

Not as underwhelming as [b:Postern of Fate|102311|Postern of Fate (Tommy and Tuppence, #5)|Agatha Christie|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1295679581s/102311.jpg|6564882] (that is the AC book I found the worst), but - AND I REALLY HATE TO SAY THIS ABOUT AN AGATHA CHRISTIE BOOK- still boring, dragging and most of the time pointless.
YAWN.
YAWN.
The plot was alright but that's about it for me.
+ Liked that Marina Gregg was the murderer. The hint of Heather being sick all there years ago was a nice one.
- Miss marple (for me) is boring. Really boring.
- some things felt just to be too much. The mysterious adoption kid that also appeared to be present at the murder for example. Felt like Christie just threw that in to add another chapter with a fake lead (I have nothing against fake leads, as long as they are plausible and not tooo detailed)
- took a little long to get started
- all the interviews with the suspects didn't really interest me.
Would not recommend

B- 3.5 stars
I enjoy the mysteries by Agatha Christie. They are clever and show a lot of insight into human nature. Unfortunately, many of the prevailing attitudes of Ms. Christie's time are distasteful, such as ethnic slurs, like "wops" for Italians, being used. Plus this is the second book where a distinction is made between adopted children and "real" children that is distasteful to me. It's unfortunate that these things mar the stories because even as I try to accept it as outdated attitudes, it's still not pleasant to read about. Recommended with caveats.

This is my first Miss Marple adventure! I was a bit hesitant to pick this one up, because I've fallen so in love with Poirot. But quite glad that I did buy this one, as it was a cracking adventure and honestly...probably more gripping than the last Poirot I read! Quite interesting how this one played out, as there were very many POV characters (as I feel is Christie's wont) and the main character, Miss Marple...really didn't move around a whole lot, but I guess that's kinda understandable? Miss Marple is basically an 80-year-old woman living in a comfortable place, even if she is a bit stifled by her overbearing caretaker. How often do we read books where the main character is an 80-year-old detective? Well I at least can say that this is my first of that sort. And it was just fantastic. Christie's humour is on point and I found myself smiling many times throughout. Really, Christie just has such a firm grasp on the human experience and how we are so silly yet...still are so beautiful and tragic all at the same time. This book has a great mystery as well, one that I didn't quite crack for a good long time. The characters are all highly vivid and real and the pathos in this book was much more than I anticipated. You really do empathize with some of these characters. So well done, Christie. I must read more Miss Marple books, as this one was first rate.
