So I hadn't read this series since middle school and it really wan't as good as I had remembered (go figure!) BUT it was super fun to revisit and I'm so grateful for Tamora Pierce for all the adventures she's given us.

again, the way they treat the 16 y/o MC like a whole adult is actually appalling, but still had a gr8 time rereading for the nostalgia of it if I suspended my disbelief very hard

I have to admit, while I love these characters, this isn't my favorite book. This is the book with all the hard parts.

I do love this world but this series most of all. Unfortunately this is one of my least favourite books in it. The writing, plot and characters are still amazing.
The pace is a little slower as they are separated but does well with scrying to connect back and keep things moving.
My biggest issue is the romance. I age up YA main characters 5-10 years and it doesn’t help because not only the gap that large but the dynamic is a big deal breaker for me. The saving graces are the dynamics are sweet and tender with Diane leading. Also Pierce has addressed the concerns

This *might* be my favorite book in the series! That's really saying a lot as I absolutely loved Wolf Speaker. This book was very creative and full of adventure and interesting characters. I loved exploring the realm that the gods live in. It kept me interested and hooked the whole time.

This is a series I just have to reread every so often. The characters became my friends, more so than in almost any other series. This is a satisfying conclusion, though I'll always wish there were more books about Daine!

My favorite in the quartet. I love how Daine has grown and learned.
