An alternate Italian Mediteranean setting really helps to put you in the mood, I liked the slightly different Italian patois, gives the Navolese a futuristic, fantasy sound to the language, and being the first book in the series, a lot of intro and setup to the world and place...but when it gets going, woah! 🤯...indeed.

This is the best book of the year, imo. The worldbuilding is phenomenal- so descriptive that it feels as though you can walk in it, smell the wine, feel the breeze. The story is a slow burn, coming of age story. It is the story of coming of age as the scion of a powerful crime family that basically runs the show while pulling strings from the shadows.

It’s so insanely good.

If I can  find a book that is somehow better than Navola this year It'll be the best year of my life. Otherwise it's been a pretty darn goodyear

Astounding book.
There were three aspects I most enjoyed:
Davico's relationships with his family and how it formed him as a person, especially his father and his sister.
The politics of Navola.
And Davico and the dragon eye.
(I also found that the use of Italian throughout the book added so much unique flavor).
I really loved this book.
Please tell me the wait until book number 2 isn't long...
