We love this series and finding the new friends in each book. In this one, a sweet doe follows the children as they discover the changing of seasons from autumn to winter.

Highly recommended for 2-7 year olds.

Exquisite illustrations are the main attraction here: bold fall leaves against the muted background of the season, dynamism in the breeze blowing away the warmth of the passing year, and the pale trickling in of winter. Pak has an eye for communicating quiet beauty, as well as reverence for the natural world. The text leaves a bit to be desired; it does the job, but I didn’t find it nearly up to par with the artwork. If anything, it sometimes felt to be a distraction. Still, it was decent enough to carry me through, and I loved the pictures on every page. A worthy addition to the seasonal section of a child’s library.

The illustrations are the main attraction in this simple story of seasonal transitions. I just love the use of color and the depth in the illustrations. Each page has just some simple text, but enough to spark conversation and foster the skill of observation in the natural world.

A brother and a sister go on a walk and say "Hello" to things found in nature. Each creature/plant/tree say "Hi" and tell the kids what is happening to them to prepare for winter. The author then does the same thing as winter is welcomed. I love the soft illustrations.

I enjoyed this new presentation of saying "Hello!" to various aspects of the seasons.

Kenard Pak is absolutely a top tier and one of my favorite children's book illustrators but the text in this one was just awkward to read and didn't flow. Found myself stumbling over the words, and I don't even stumble when I'm reading a Dr. Seuss book, lol.

Two children wander around, saying hello to various pieces of the world around them. These bits and bobs answer back, creating a conversation about what's happening as autumn turns to winter. The illustrations are delicious and cozy, and offered a lot to look at and talk about.

Inspired a discussion with the almost-three-year old about deer not being horses.
