Madga is a historian who has dedicated her life to the legacy of a famous poet. Madga is the caretaker of the poet's estate in Key West. A hurricane is headed directly towards the Keys, and despite the warnings to evacuate, Madga decides to stay and protect the property. The story takes us through her struggles to survive the hurricane, as well as discovering the mysteries about her favorite poet.

Nellums wrote a good story. It is not a great story, and probably will not linger in my mind for long. With that said, I enjoyed it and found the directions of the plot interesting. I haven't read a book by Eliza Nellums before and enjoyed her writing and imagination.

I listened to the audio version of the book. Nancy Peterson was a delightful narrator. She brought suspense where needed and did a nice job personifying Madga.

Thank you Libro.Fm and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

This book was like being stalked by a turtle. Slow moving and infuriating. The main character began acting irrationally unlike her character in the beginning and the ending left me mad at all involved. If you’re not used to hurricanes, then perhaps the minute details of preparing would be insightful. But to natives it is monotonous. Everything felt rushed in the last 2-3 chapters but no resolve for the reader.

I'm not a huge fan of thrillers because I generally find them ridiculously implausible without enough character development. This book seems meticulously well researched making an implausible situation seem... possible. I really appreciated the attention to details and the time spent developing the character of Magda. Well done!
