Emily dear, I almost gave up on you after „Happy Place“, but I‘m coming to realize that this story was merely an exception from your other masterpieces — at least for me (i despise second chance romance).
Or maybe I just prefer to read books about people who love books.
However, the protagonists were once again *chef‘s kiss*, the humor had me giggling and rolling my eyes, the romance was genuinely heartwarming and overall the story was addictive. I love that the author focuses so much on the character dynamics and development — and still manages to make their environment seem charming and singular.
The plot about January‘s (yeah, that‘s her name, let‘s just collectively sigh and get over it) dad was quite sad but beautiful and centered around themes like disillusionment and forgiveness — why do I always pick up the novels about daddy issues though?

There it is! THAT’s the summer read I’ve been waiting for.
Light, clever, and frolicky? (it’s a word), while still being genuine, relatable, and investment-worthy.
I liked the threads of seriousness woven in, but was kinda bummed they didn’t amount to anything. And the last chapter was a little soft, like she wrote it “nine months later” having forgotten what the best parts of the characters were. But neither of those things really took away from what was ultimately a solid and enjoyable read.
And for the record, don’t put stock in the cover art. 100%, the artist never read the book.

This was such a cute little romance novel.
I loved the friendship between Gus and January - the vibe and banter of their friendship was adorable. But as their romantic relationship progressed, things got awkward in parts (mostly because of the characters' flaws) and I found it a bit weird and frustrating to read.
Overall, it was an easy read that had me smiling along with the characters. Would recommend.
