I was bored, was really hoping to be scared, decided to read a bunch of reviews and they all said it starts to get good at page 300 and I don’t care enough to get that far.

I honestly don’t even know how to feel. It was just whack. Like good story telling but what the heck was going on the whole time!
dark emotional reflective medium-paced

The writing felt very disjointed. The inner monologue of Louis seemed absurd half the time. It would pull me out of the story and often didn't seem to have any connection to the storyline. This is my first Stephen King novel and it was honestly a huge letdown.

I also hated the inner thoughts Louis had for the female characters. I know it was written in the 80s, but it was all a bit too on the nose. He made one comparison of a hill to the curve of a woman's breast. Completely unnecessary and weird. If anything the comments about the females were more creepy than the actual storyline.

The premise is really intriguing but it took 75% of the book for it pick up any speed. The majority of the book seemed unnecessary to the actual plot line. It didn't even feel like a slow build for solid character development - which I love. Instead it felt like I was reading an endless story about the mundane life of a man and his family.

Several reviews say it is an excellent portrayal of grief. I read a lot of books about that subject and the depth of grief didn't even cross my mind while reading through the tragedies that occurred. If anything it was an examination of death, rather than grief.

I wanted to like this book. I tried to like it. But it just didn't do anything for me. It was rather "meh" and that's why I'm giving it 2.5 stars.

5 solid stars!
It was my fault that i greedily watched 1989 Pet Sematary while i was in the middle of reading the book and for the last few chapters i was just scanning it only reading the highlights from the movie, wanting to compare what were the difference between the screen and its words.
I learned my lesson tho never going to watch any adaptation while reading the book.
