This book was really promising in the beginning, but then it just went downhill. It had a lot of misscomunication and bad communication which I really disliked. Also that whole plot/subplot at the end really pissed me off, and I don't think there was enough groveling!
when someone you care about tells you they got unwanted advances and it made them uncomfortable, your response should definitely NOT be "I don't believe it"

ok the first 100 pages were a bit shit but past that it was saur good.

the characters weren’t amazingly developed and the writing was basic - which is where it fell down most - but everything else was great fun.

it was utterly millennial though.

This was my first adventure in adult romance, and I was not disappointed!
This was a super fun story. It's fast-paced, the writing is easy to read, and the characters are loveable. For once the miscommunication trope was used because it made sense, not just to create unnecessary tension between the characters. Both love interests had great chemistry, and the banter between them was definitely my favorite part of this.
I do think, though, that a few conflicts were resolved a little too easily and should have been talked about more by the characters.
I feel like it should also be noted that (contrary to what I feel like is floating around about this book) this is NOT super sexy. Every possible sex scene is fade-to-black. This was nice for me because as an asexual person I didn't feel quite ready to jump into super smutty romance, so it was a good stepping stone for me to get into the genre.
All in all, this was a super quick, fun read that I was able to finish in one sitting, and a good starting point for anyone looking to start reading romance.

i thought this was super cute and wholesome! very easy to read and i liked the little bit of depth this book gave. i didn't appreciate certain mental health words used as insults, and its not very impressive when the book was published in 2019...

>> no spoilers <<
so this book was um interesting. For a story that’s very popularized on YouTube and tik tok I would expect a lot more than what I got. Christina Lauren is also a pretty well-known author(s) but again I am not getting that from the book I just read.

i’ll take a step back and mention a couple things that bothered me about this book.

1. The characters. I am solely a character-based reader and if I don’t like the people that are in the book I’m not going to enjoy the story. Not like the characters were really terrible but they were just not well developed, and because of that I just did not like their personalities. I also think it’s important to mention how the authors contradicted themselves multiple times in the book. For example at one point it mentions how the love interest is very insightful and is always taking in information, and then another scene he is too stupid to recognize signs that are plainly in front of him. It’s just very confusing to read about because I don’t know anything about the characters real personalities. it also mentions how in past relationships the character had trouble only agreeing with their partner, and yet he doesn’t want to argue with this new partner which means that there is zero character development.

2. then of course there is an issue with the plot. For one the entire story was very much in the hyperbole, and it’s hard to imagine half the things happening in this book but all of it put together is even worse. it’s one thing to say it’s a romcom and a funny story, but it’s a completely other thing to say that all these coincidental things just happened to occur at the exact same time… but just in case you don’t believe me, we’ll just have the character believe in luck. Which made the story very un relatable because in which life are you actually going to be getting married using almost completely raffle wins, and who in their right mind would actually give you that kind of dress from that supposed sweepstake. It makes no sense.

2.5. Breaking off of that is the issue of the entire book structure. I didn’t really have much trouble with the way that the authors were writing because their style is almost like any other romcom and expected. (Again I wish they would’ve more into personality traits but that’s a whole Other story.) I’m talking about the actual structure of the book and how it started off with a romance and then turned into a completely different plot. Which really wasn’t the end of the world, IF the book could continue at a consistent pace. The beginning was rather slow and I felt almost bored and then they got the vacation and some scenes sped up, but yet all the romance was rushed and I couldn’t really feel them falling in love. This is a “fade to black” kind of story so technically there aren’t any sex scenes in the book, which could affect the amount of romance that I’m getting, but still I just felt like it was too much time hating each other, and then coincidental love that lasted about two pages, and then they moved onto a completely different couple by the end of the story.

3. there was a miscommunication plot. that occurred multiple times. ENOUGH SAID. actually not enough said because I just want to scream at the fact that the main couple seemed to argue and get together so many times in the book it was infuriating.

4. I really need to stop ranting but this is my last thing. Like I mentioned there was not really that much romance in the book and I felt like I didn’t know enough about this put their personalities. By the end of the book I realize that that’s because they base their entire love that their physical appearance and not really about how they acted with each other. For example the main love interest is always getting sidetracked by the MC’s breasts, or she can’t help herself because she’s looking at his collar bones for the first time. and yes there is always a physical aspect of the relationship, but I felt like there needed to be so much more time and actually bonding and doing things together but it just seemed like all they wanted to do was make love and then argue and I’m not talking about the joking way I’m talking about literally fighting multiple times throughout the end of the book. it’s The fact that they based so much on physical beauty that really bothers me and I just felt no chemistry between either of the characters

🥳✨💖 OKAY BUT LETS TALK ABOUT AMIIIII.  miss ma’am was literally the best character in the entire book, because at the very end which I technically won’t spoil but she totally just Girlbossed her way out of a tough situation. Good for her honestly she was like the only character I could relate to.

anyway that’s about it. Don’t know if I’m going to be reading anything by these authors anytime soon because despite all the hype I was not getting what I was promised. Also the cover art is ugly. Sorry. Three stars.
