I was excited for this one, since it's pitched as The Hunger Games meets Iron Chef, which absolutely sounds like something that would be up my alley. Though it didn't quite meet my expectations, I did have a fun time reading it! And some of the aspects of the world were interesting; I just wished they could have been fleshed out a little more.

I think this book suffers from being too short. Lim crafted a pretty complicated world, and I don't think there is enough time for it (and the characters) to really breath. There is a love triangle, but a lot of the development there seemed to have happened off page, so we don't get a lot of the chemistry between either of the love interests. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm interested to see if the next book is able to flesh out more of the world and the characters.

I love the concept but I really don’t like YA sometimes and this was just very that

The description of food was awesome and delectable. It left me craving good food.
I didn’t care for the love story. Having to decide between two love interests while in a deadly competition seems like the wrong time.

The descriptions are delicious; of food, scents, clothing, flowers, scenes.

Not a bad book by any means but I think pointing out how similar it is to The Hunger Games in its blurbs was a mistake. Sadly, it points out too many similarities. I normally also like shorter books but I wanted more world building in this. Overall, not a bad read but not one I think I’d revisit.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed this YA fantasy, such an original concept of a challenge cooking for the gods with a bit of romance thrown in! I also thought the audiobook narrator was fabulous and I had so much fun 💗

From the high stakes cooking competition, to the quests, to the classic YA 'best friend vs. crush' love triangle, this book delivered on everything it promised and I loved every minute of it. It was just so much fun. I only wish it could have been a little bit longer, so I could have spent more time with this ragtag crew and delved deeper into the world. I had such a good time with this book and it's one I'd happily return to for a foodie fantasy fix.
