Quite a few side stories as the Empire and the Fabletown residents each prepare for war. There is a lot of espionage and politics flying about but the introduction of new characters and some slice-of-life (well, the closest we can get to a semblance of normal life in Fabletown) help alleviate the seriousness and political jargon in the volume.

This was a great set up episode as the fallout from Bigsby's raid into the homelands becomes preparing for war between the Fables and the Adversary/Emperor. Get to see more anger from Geppetto about the Sacred Grove and his actions towards his children. Also family life of Bigsby and Snow White with the pack, visit to Grandpa, introduction to Ghost, birthday and Christmas (meeting Santa and side plot advancement of Ambrose.)

This one also kind of bothered me, for a lot of casually thrown in phrases that just assert very traditional and harmful social perceptions or values.
Santa Claus talking about also delivering toys in "darkest Africa"? Mr. North and his "rights of fatherhood" when discussing how to deal with his offspring who nearly killed his grandchildren? :/
I dunno. And sometimes the sparse storytelling gets annoying, like a confrontation between Bigby and Mr. North where Mr. North already knows why Bigby hates him and has tried to kill him seven times. Ok, but as the reader, I don't know, and now seemed like a really good opportunity to actually explain WHY they're on such bad terms, and a little more detail beyond "you left my mother" would've been nice.

Great graphic novel. I truly like the Fables world, and I recommend these books. They are rich in stories, the world is imaginative, and the battle between the exiles and the adversary is gonna be quite epic, when it comes to that. I also like the illustrators, they have done a good job.

I liked this volume. Not as action-packed as the previous few but I loved the build up of the empire's plans for our world. Is it bad that frequently when I read evil plans to destroy our world I get really excited about them?
