The female narrator absolutely ruined this book.
Narrators can make or break a book.
Even if Kale Williams did a good job, and I tried to skip the chapters read by Sarah Puckett, I couldn't stomach this.

It definitely coloured my opinion of the story and my rating.

Overall 3.5/5
Heat 3/5

*slow burn to the actual sex

This is the first book in the Blood Alliance series, unfortunately I accidentally read this one second. I’m pretty sure if I read it first I would have liked this book more than the 3 stars I’m giving it. It’s a good book and a great opener for the series. I liked the chemistry between the couples, I just didn’t like Juliet after reading Rae’s story. I like the fire Rae brought and then reading about poor subservient Juliet was hard. I know why she was like that and if I read her story first I would have been ok with it. I feel like I would have rated this book 4 stars if I read it first because I like the big story with the lead up to the revolt.
So if you read this book, and I highly recommend it if you like a paranormal book with vampires and a series with both vampires and shifters, keep going to the next couple in the series. I really love the characters in the second book and the third books spice is off the charts.

Thoughts: will add to review later.

Darius wanted Juliet to use her as a means to an end. By the finale, they have built a bond and Juliet has managed to overcome what is basically indoctrination under Darius' care. This sets up the world of the series well and sows the seeds for a rebellion that the remaining books will continue. It's political intrigue and oppressive regimes, with vampires and shifters fighting for control over humans (the lowest in the pecking order).

The way I thought this wasn't going to be my thing and now I'm sitting here like a clown and adding the rest of the series to my buy list.

Darius often refers to Juliet as intelligent but I disagree. She's pretty dumb imo.

This is my second read of LCF's work and I am becoming an avid fan of her writing. The imagination of this woman has me floating in bliss.

Darius is a vampire on a mission to start a revolution and destroy the current system where Vampires and Lycans rule, and humans are nothing of importance aside from being their slaves. Juliet was bred to do her master's bidding, but this virgin human is worth her value. These two characters make the ultimate team. I was so enthralled by their chemistry and the hold that they had on each other. The story itself is uniquely crafted and I am so happy to have found this series to feed my paranormal addiction. Everything about this darkly erotic romance has my full attention and am now in this for the long haul. Cannot wait to jump on the next book in the series.

To all readers/listeners that like to read along with an audiobook or just simply prefer this format. Kale Williams has one of the most gentle and calming voices I have ever heard. His European accent has been my undoing and I actually listened to the book in real time rather than at double the speed.
