I know there's quite a few people who find this to be too low-key and fairly tropey, which I do agree with, but I really enjoyed this regardless.

Yes there's a love triangle that is so flat and pointless that Theodosia could have used it as a surfboard, and I'm not sure where all the non-abusive adults have gone, or really just anyone that qualifies as a grown-up, BUT.

There's so many interesting moral quandaries in here. The whole thing is a trolley problem of increasing scale where Theo debates whether she sacrifices the few nice people she knows for her suffering subjects. Is she any better than her oppressors if she uses the tactics they do? And what is she if decides not to act? There's also an argument to be made that she doesn't have some inherent obligation to the Astrean populace just because she was princess one time.

I really liked seeing our MC grapple with these questions, finding her own ways to conduct espionage and achieve her goals while discovering herself. Her love interests - or should I say, crushes, there's nothing interesting about either of them - don't feature so heavily in her thoughts as objects of affection so much as other hurdles to overcome, so I was fine with that. Anyway the ending sort of makes up for all that waffle about the blond boy, heh.

I think i am in a love/hate relationship with this book.

Don’t get me wrong, i liked it. I think it’s above average books, but it was not one of my favs.

I read a lot of this kind of books and i felt it was kind of predictable…. and i felt it could be a lot more of developement of the main character. Maybe in the second and third books of the series.

Also, i liked a lot how the author made all the relationships in the book, very interesting.

Wow was this book a ride. I have so many different thoughts and feelings that I want to discuss about this book that I don't even know where to begin. This book was so interesting. Overall, I quite enjoyed the book and the last half of it kept me reading until 2 am when I should have been sleeping to prepare for a big day of travel. However, I simply couldn't put it down. It was such a page-turner.

I loved the characters and what we've seen of the world so far. I think Theo is realistic as a character and I'm excited to see her growth in future books. I am interested in how this love-triangle situation turns out. I really hope that she ends up with the one I want, though it's not looking that way at the end of this book. I can't wait for the next one and I'm internally crying at the fact that I have to wait over a year for it.

Overall, this book was great and I really enjoyed it. You can check out my full spoiler-free review on my blog!

Why does she have relationships with 2 boys at the same time? And true ones?

Absolutely loved listening to this novel. The plot and characters were wonderfully crafted and the narrator brought be to tears during emotional scenes.

Ash Princess was alright. I was engaged from the first page. Theo was an okay storyteller. Soren is the biggest cinnamon roll around and I loved him. Weird love triangles are weird. And I love a good battle of the besties. Or hope for one in the sequel.
