i would like to start off by saying the writing style isnt really my cup of tea, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. this book was soooo good and such an easy read. i had a very good tune reading it. but i do have to say there was something about the chain of events that was sooo unrealistic to the point i was almost irritated?? iykwim??
theodosia is such a strong character and i was happily surprised when she showed her wit; her character wasnt really what i expected because i honestly thought she would be like other fmc’s who are described as strong and badass but are really just weak. she surprised me. of course, she had her moments where it was hard to root for her, but still she pulled through. i feel like we need to know more about her idk but sometimes her character is so unclear. also very predictable…
as for soren…i honestly hope she kills him in the end. idk i just cant like him. i see why theo would develop feelings for him but this book is predictable enough as it is, so she should kill him.
obviously the love triangle is soooooooooo predictable so i wont even comment about that any more.
blaise is…so bland. thats all i’ll say.
ART AND HERON. what kind of book would this be without the actually well written side characters. especially art who is my favv.
i really cant see how theyre going to win this battle but im all for the journey. now as for cress, never liked her in the first place but im sure theyre going to do this thing where she gets redeemed or whatever so thats..fun!
overall, this book screams ghosts that are haunting the narrative trope and i love it. through every line you could feel the whispers of ghosts.
5/5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! I started reading it not knowing too much about it honestly, it was an Amazon impulse by but I very quickly got all of my preconceived notions about what it would be VERY quickly and I was really surprised by just how much character and plot growth happened throughout.
This book is perfect for fans of The Winners Curse, The Belles, and Children of Blood and Bone. It gave me serious vibes of all three of those books so if you're familiar with them, you know what a rare treat that is!
I highly recommend it and can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Mmmmmm fantasy feminism series make brain go brrrr
This may not be the most original book I ever read but it was interesting and definitely the kind of book I was on the mood for.
Also I’m rooting for SørTheo don’t let me down here.

This is a nice start to the series. Lots of back story and building of whats been going on. Still to soon to see how the story will unfold and whete it will go an how comparable to other series similar to this story.
The execution isn't perfect, but the concepts are beautifully nostalgic to me, and I had a good time. I probably would have been obsessed with this if I had read it 5 years ago. I also teared up twice, which I didn't expect!
However I don't care for

Blaise, at all. #TeamSoren.
Not for the faint of heart.
A compelling story, good world building, excited to continue, but my heart needs a break. Will do something light and breezy before continuing the series

At first, I didn't really know what to expect, I'm not really fond of vengeance and this world didn't really attract me, too cruel! But then, I started really liking Theo, wanted to know how the story was going to end and i'm not disappointed. I highly recommend this book, and can't wait to read the second one!
