I don't read much fantasy, but occasionally I will pick something just to dip into another genre. I don't know who recommended Ash Princess, but I want to thank whoever it was. Author Laura Sebastian's storytelling kept me tensely turning pages. The story is original and full of details about the world she created. I found the characters multi-dimensional and the plot full of intriguing twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

There have been a whole slew of princess stories lately and a book really needs to be unique to stand out. This book has a one of a kind story where the poor princess lives with the people who killed her family. Princess Theo has to pretend to be meek and submissive to her captors in order to survive, all while attempting to overthrow the bad guys without getting caught.

At times, I felt like the love triangle thing going on was a little daunting and produced an eye roll from me once or twice. I suppose it needed to be in the story to give you hope that Theo would someday find love, but it wasn't my kind of romance. I guess that was the only thing that stopped me from giving this book five stars.

I really loved how Theo had to sneak around. There was always suspense and a thrill when you think she was going to get caught. I can't wait for this book to come out in hard copy so I can buy one for my bookshelf.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

I have to admit it was a super entertaining read. HOWEVER, Theo pissed me off a lot of the times I just hated her thought process. And also confused as to how out of nowhere she decides she loves Blaise when they talk like 4 times total during the book. He also has this protector complex that I do not dig. Idk. I was very confused as to some of her choices since they made ZERO sense to me as a reader and am obviously biased in favor of Soren which is another reason why I think Theo is super annoying. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

EVERYONE READ THIS BOOK RN. Sorry I didn't mean to yell it's just that this book is so good and I feel like it's not getting the attention it deserves. Think Red Queen meets Throne of Glass. It has everything:
- Swoon worthy romance interests (yes I said interests like plural so there is a love triangle... but honestly, even though I hate them, this one didn't both me)
- Betrayal
- REAL AND HONEST FEMALE FRIENDSHIP (although it is complicated I will not lie)
- a captured queen falling for a prince she knows she shouldn’t fall for
- MAGIC
- Rebellion and all that goes with it

I mean I’m probably not selling this well enough but just trust me and read it!!!!

The characters are the highlight of this book. The plot doesn’t feel super unique but the characters are fresh and flushed out. I look forward to exploring their motivations and change in beliefs in the next book.

yeah i need theo to get it back in blood fr

This book was def. something else! I love the moment we step into the book and this world, the way the magic system is introduced.

It is heartbreaking to follow all the hardship she has to endure and the cruel system that is against her. Some of the punishments are really graphic and aren't for the faint of heart. I love how she grows from a little lamb to someone who takes charge of her own destiny and I feeeeeeel for Sørren. This books hits us with twists and turns that often feel unfair but necessary for Theo's growth.

A YA fantasy story filled with royal intriges, betrayal & elemental magic that would be perfect for readers that loved the Red Queen series.

BRB grabbing Lady Smoke (book two) from my TBR shelf.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Let me start out by saying the cover is stunning. The colors are so striking that I was immediately drawn to the book.

The plot is unique: a princess of an empire, Thora, that was taken over by another empire is being held captive as a reminder of what happened. When her last hope of being rescued disappears, Thora secretly works with the rebel forces to escape and take back get kingdom.

There are a lot of tropes in this book. The one that really hurt to read was the love triangle. It felt forced, and I honestly didn’t like either of the men involved. I found myself not caring who Thora wound up with. There is also the “pretend to love the bad guy to betray him, but really fall in love with him” trope that was frustrating.

The writing overall was good, but the tropes made the book predictable and I wish that there were fewer. I would read the next book to see what happened, but this book felt too familiar.

Ok.... I was not prepared for how good this book was going to be. Omg one of my best reads of 2020 so far. This book has it all royalty, magic system, enslaved people and a girl in the middle. This book gave me all the feels. They thought they had her beaten, broken, and humiliated. But vengeance will be hers. I couldn’t stop reading and I will be starting book two really soon. I have so many feels about this book. I love Soren and in a way he is just as broken as she. Made to do hateful things at the command of his father. I see his and just as much of a prisoner as she was. I felt sorry for Cress at the end. Her love turned to hatred and she had everything she every wanted taken away her. I’m anxious to know what happened next at the Kaisers court.

I have updated my review I am going to give this book four stars because it was actually thoroughly incredible it’s hard to make female characters strong when they don’t have fighting strength but that was achieved in this book perfectly the love interest was amazing and the love story was not at all annoying or at any points boring or bad a tough thing to achieve I think about this book a lot and how it didn’t feel like I was reading while I’ve had books that I love it still has felt like I was reading them whereas with this book I actually felt like I was in the world with the characters I litterally read the second and third book back to back like finished the second book and IMMEDIATLY went to grab the third that NEVER happens.
