Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Thriller
Published: 10/24/17

Summary: In this page-turner of a thriller by bestselling author T.R. Ragan, unlikely partners PI Jessie Cole and crime reporter Ben Morrison search for clues to a mystery buried in their own pasts - only to discover that sometimes the truth is better off buried. Ten years ago, PI Jessie Cole and reporter Ben Morrison each suffered a tragedy that changed their lives.- and now these 2 strangers are about to share a nightmare. For Jessie, who makes her living finding missing persons, no case has consumed her more than the disappearance of her younger sister, Sophie. But left alone to raise Sophie’s daughter, she realizes that solving the case has become an unhealthy obsession. For Ben, a horrific car accident resulted in scars both physical and emotional - and amnesia that has made his life a mystery. But curiously, out of his shattered memories, there’s one person he recognizes without a doubt: Jessie’s sister. He doesn’t know why. Yet. But Sophie isn’t the only phantom drawing Jessie and Ben together. An elusive serial murderer known as the Heartless Killer has re-emerges from the shadows. His next move will cut even deeper into Jessie’s worst fears. And for Ben, what happens this time is going to be unforgettable.

Review: I am loving this series already! Like a lot of thriller series, Jessie seems to get herself in some really bad spots and then has to figure out how to get out. This serial murderer was seriously deranged. I know he had a bad childhood, but I do not think that condones becoming a murderer and making innocent people suffer. But it does make for a good story. I love being able to put together mysteries and clues and being able to figure out what happens at the end. I really like the thriller books where they go into the minds of the killers as I like to know what makes them tick. It helps to figure out the end! If you like thrillers that have a little horror built in them, I would recommend reading this book!

A new PI series from TR Ragan. I loved the Lizzie Gardner and Faith McMann series and couldnt wait for this book. It was one of the first books that I was approved for on Netgalley and it is finally close enough to release date to read and review it. An enjoyable read of Jessie Cole and her niece Olivia. Looking forward to reading more in this series. Thank you to Thomas and Mercer for an advance copy of this book to read and review

This has been sitting on my TBR list for a while and it was about time I read it. Oh boy I was not disappointed! Jessie, after all these years is trying to solve the mystery of her sister Sophies death, whilst looking after her sister's daughter and working as a PI. Ben lost his memory, but sees a picture of Sophie and something sparks. Working together they try to figure out the mystery. Really well developed story and kept me interested. Really likeable characters too, which I find rare in books I read. I definitely want to read more by this author.

Huge Ragan fan here! Great start to a new series by her.

It's the beginning of another great series by T.R. Ragan and I was lucky to get an advanced copy courtesy of NetGalley. A solid 5 stars for me! I have yet to read one of her books that I didn't just eat up. And if life wasn't so busy, I'd have read this in a couple sittings.

My oh my...where to start!

We have Jessie Cole, a private investigator, who is raising her niece on her own after her sister disappeared 10 years ago. Their mother abandoned them when they were young and their father started drinking. Jessie took on caring for her sister, who at sixteen became pregnant. Jessie struggled to help care for her sister, Sophie, along with her daughter until one day, Sophie went out and never returned. Now it's just Jessie and Olivia. She has never stopped looking for her. That was her main reason for becoming a PI.

Then there's Ben Morrison who is a crime reporter. He was in a horrific car accident 10 years ago that left him badly disfigured and with no memories from before the accident. He's happily married with two children and going about his life living from the accident forward. He was told his memories may come back, but they may not. One day, he sees a picture on a show talking about a cold case. It's Sophie Cole and something triggers a memory.

And thus creates our duo for this story...Jessie and Ben. Will they find out what happened to Sophie? Is she still alive somewhere? Or dead? Will Ben's memories return? Can Jessie trust him?

So many questions as these two embark on a joined effort to find out what happened to Sophie.

And we also have a gruesome serial killer named "The Heartless Killer" that has everyone in the area on edge. Plus Jessie is going through another issue that could take her away from Olivia. She was in a shooting while doing surveillance for a client. And she gets a new client who's schizophrenic daughter is missing.

All these different story-lines make for a great read. Will they each get resolved? Will they collide? You have to read the book to find out.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for this opportunity. And to T.R. Ragan for another great read!

Now that's how you write a thriller!

What a wonderful intrinsically woven book about a reporter, her missing sister, and a serial killer. The dynamics that connect each story is beautifully written. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole story and I couldn’t stop reading. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
